Engaging Community: A Toolkit for Reciprocal Teaching and Learning Beyond the Campus
These videos are part of a forthcoming curriculum guide, Engaging Community: A Toolkit for Reciprocal Teaching and Learning Beyond the Campus (edited by Nicholas Longo, Carmine Perrotti, and Matthew Roy), which provides a robust set of resources for educators to advance reciprocal community-engaged teaching and learning in higher education.
The toolkit is developed as a six-module sequence based on foundational principles and practices and is ideal for intentional learning spaces, such as faculty learning communities, graduate student certificate programs, staff professional development, or undergraduate courses focused on community engagement. In addition to these videos from expert community-engaged scholars and practitioners, the toolkit includes learning objectives, suggested readings, and lesson plans with ready-to-use activities and civic prompts.
ββIt was piloted during the 2024-25 academic year with the engaged faculty learning community on community engagement sponsored by the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. The Engaging Community toolkit will be a living document, available at no cost as an open-source resource for wide distribution.
