What is Systemic Racism and Why it Matters?

On Friday, July 14th, Dr. Christopher Chambers, member of Providence College Department of Sociology and Anthropology and faculty-in-residence for the Center at Moore Hall, led a session entitled, “What is Systemic Racism and Why Does it Matter?”. His session was designed to introduce participants to the sociological roots of the term “systemic racism”. This session explored the meaning and assumptions of the concept and utilized historical and contemporary data and examples to illustrate how social scientists, activists, and others rely on it to construct a compelling and deep analysis of how racism manifests and works in modern societies. A recording is available on this page and on our Resources & Recordings page. A Q&A from this presentation will be available shortly
