DID Walls
We have seen the power of student leadership in civil discourse efforts on campus, evidenced by the creation of student-led “democracy walls” beginning in 2018. After learning to integrate deliberative practices in a course on dialogue, diversity, and civic engagement taught by Dr. Bevely and Dr. Longo, a team of students created democratic spaces for civil discourse on campus–initially in the Feinstein Academic Center and soon thereafter in the Center at Moore Hall and now Athletics, the Ryan Center for Business Studies, and the Science Complex. These public spaces aim to “create a safe space that supports the development of well-informed and engaged citizens through civil discourse.” The DID Lab has created an easy-to-use toolkit to help you get started on your campus/in your community.
