The Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is committed to fostering meaningful and impactful collaborations to create a Beloved Community. Listed on this page are a number of initiatives that our division has undertaken.
Strategic Directions Steering Committee (SDSC)
The DEI Strategic Directions Steering Committee serves as a central space for discussing and vetting diversity, equity, and inclusion related matters, to inform ongoing planning and direction that aligns with the College’s Strategic Plan- PC200goal of becoming “a model of love, inclusivity and equity in a diverse community.
Advocates for a Beloved Community
To accomplish the goals of PC200’s Strategic Plan for Diversity, the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (IDEI) will establish the inaugural Advocates of a Beloved Community (ABC). Operating under the umbrella of IDEI, the “Advocates” will be trained in areas related to cross-cultural understanding, micro/macro aggressions, restorative practices, and conflict resolution. This group will serve to provide ongoing education for bias and hate incidents that adversely affect members of the campus community. ABC will offer the campus various opportunities to engage in anti-bias education, advocacy, and solidarity. Through workshops and experiential learning experiences, ABC will emerge as student educators for the greater campus in areas related to bias and hate speech.
Student Diversity Advisory Council
To accomplish the goals of PC200’s Strategic Plan for Diversity, the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (IDEI) will establish the inaugural Student Diversity Advisory Council (SDAC). The council will serve as a student voice that is representative of various backgrounds, clubs/organizations, and academic majors. SDAC will inform IDEI’s practices, priorities, and programmatic efforts that promote access and inclusion for students at Providence College. SDAC will assist in advancing IDEI’s key initiatives and five strategic focus areas through intentional collaboration, council meetings, and execution. Lastly, SDAC will provide culturally responsive educational experiences to community members and student groups at Providence College related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Community & Diversity Mini Grants
As part of the PC200’s Strategic Plan, the Division of Institutional Diversity Equity and Inclusion has created a Community & Diversity Mini Grants program. This program provides funding to incentivize and support faculty, staff, and student organizations projects that advance, equity, and engagement as a collective participatory process for the campus community. Proposals must align with the five DEI focus areas and support innovative and community-focus efforts. 10 projects were fully funded in 2019-2020.
